Crusader Connection 11-20-20
November 20, 2020
Dear OLGC School Families,
With Thanksgiving drawing near, I am ever more thankful for our school community. Over the past 2 years, I have witnessed the strengthening of our community by our Almighty God. We are a strong family who cannot be shaken because our faith remains in Jesus and our mission remains the greatest purpose of our lives; to have a relationship with Jesus. I am thankful for your support, encouragement, prayers, and partnership as we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and offer your children the best Catholic education.
This week, we received
from Bishop Battersby. I addressed this communication in my past
. Bishop Battersby will be supporting our parish community by being present at all Masses this weekend. He has assured our staff that there will be no change to the status of the parish or school as a result of this transition. He also said that the rumor of the AOD’s plan to close the school is not true. If you have any questions, please direct them to Bishop Battersby at
or 734-895-9101. Please be assured that the mission of OLGC Parish School has not wavered. On behalf of the OLGC Parish School Staff, we remain strongly committed to serving your families and ensuring that OLGC is sustainable for the future.
Thank you for your continued support with our safety protocols and procedures. They have proven to keep our community safe and have allowed us to remain open for in-person instruction. As a reminder, please make sure to wear your mask at arrival (Pre-K parents) and dismissal. It is a requirement to complete
a daily screening
, including a temperature check before sending your child to school. If your child shows any symptoms, keep them home and call the absence line at 734-453-3620. If you have family members in the household who have taken a COVID-19 test, keep your child home until you receive the results. Here are the current guidelines for quarantine periods:
Our school continues to improve upon our safety measures including Mass seating this week. PK-2 students are now celebrating Mass in our gym to provide more spacing. Also, we will have a second application of BioShield (EDA Approved) that prevents viruses and bacteria from adhering to surfaces. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our priority.
With next week being a short week, we will not have a Crusader Connection Newsletter. I pray your family has a healthy and peaceful Thanksgiving. We thank Him for the countless blessings in our lives, the blessing of eternal life, the blessing of the forgiveness of sins, the blessing of the thanksgiving sacrifice of the Eucharist. Let us approach Thanksgiving with a heart of gratitude and preparation for the Advent season.
On behalf of the school staff, may God bless your time together and Happy Thanksgiving to your family. Our staff is thankful for the opportunity to serve you. God is doing incredible work within our school community. Blessed Solanus Casey said to “thank God ahead of time.” Let’s stop and give thanks for all God will do at OLGC and for everyone that will come to know Him as we offer life-changing encounters with Jesus. I look forward to welcoming your children back to school on Tuesday, December 1

Thank you to all of our amazing students and families who participated in our annual PB & J Ministries Candy Drive. Jr. High Student Lighthouse Team members weighed and boxed all of the candy brought in. Even in a pandemic, we were able to collect over 500 pounds to donate! We are so blessed to be a part of such a generous school family!
Reminder: Be Sure to Self Screen
It is imperative that every child is self-screened before coming to school in the morning. By sending your child to school, you are declaring that you have completed the
Daily Health Screener
and that your child is not exhibiting any of the symptoms or conditions listed.
If you answer "YES" to one or more questions, you must keep your child home from school.
In addition, the
Student Symptom Decision Tree
should be used to assist you in screening your child for potential COVID-19 symptoms or exposure. Your cooperation is essential to keeping our students and staff safe at OLGC.
Reminder: Reporting an Absence
Please remember to call the absence line when your child will be absent 734-453-3620 OR e-mail Ms. Heffernan at
