Crusader Connection 2-26-21
February 26, 2021
Dear OLGC School Families,
Our school mission drives all that we do and every decision that we make. I have witnessed how God has chosen each of your families to be part of this mission. With each new family we have welcomed to our school, we have seen that they have brought their God-given gifts to serve our community and to encourage each other. Each member of our community comes with hearts wide open to receive our Lord’s love and to encounter Him.
Today I had the opportunity to speak to a new parent who shared that OLGC has changed her son’s life. She went on to say that OLGC is more than just an “education provider,” but that OLGC has created an environment where her son is comfortable speaking with priests and teachers who have given him a new pathway in life.
A few weeks ago, we had a new first grade student express her interest in the sacrament of Baptism. This came after studying about Baptism in her classroom. She told her parents that she wanted to be washed clean of all her sins. Her parents shared that Emily has always had a love for God. It has been a blessing to partner with her parents to foster her love for God as we offered Emily a life-changing encounter with Jesus through the sacrament of Baptism. I am pleased to announce that yesterday, we celebrated Emily's Baptism!
God is moving at OLGC! God has given us the ultimate gift in His Son, Jesus Christ. I give gratitude to each of you for the sacrifice you are making in providing your children a Catholic education so that they may encounter the gift of Jesus at OLGC. I am constantly in awe of the ways God makes His presence and will known among our school community. Jesus desires a personal relationship with each of us. Let’s continue working together to move forward with His mission at OLGC. I can’t wait to see what God does next and am humbled to be part of this incredible journey with your families!
In Christ's love,
Melisa Hunt, Principal

Catholic Foundation of Michigan Amazing Educator Award
The Catholic Foundation of Michigan
inspires charitable giving and assists donors in providing for the long-term needs of the Catholic parishes, schools, ministries, and nonprofit organizations of southeast Michigan. Each year, the Catholic Foundation of Michigan presents an Amazing Catholic Educator Award. The Amazing Catholic Educator Award recognizes teachers, specialists and administrators within the Archdiocese of Detroit who are creating a school culture that is proudly Catholic, academically excellent, accessible to all, and sustainable for the future. The Foundation believes that “this past year, more than any other, we know that the successes of our Catholic schools and students would not be possible without the selfless sacrifices of so many committed educators, administrators, clergy, and lay supporters in the community.”
We are pleased to announce that our amazing Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Angela Rochow has been nominated for this prestigious award. The award nomination asks how Mrs. Rochow embodies and exhibits Catholic principles and values, how she strives for academic excellence and empowers students, and how she goes above and beyond to support the school community at large. Angela Rochow is most deserving of being recognized for her outstanding work, service, and discipleship in our school and parish community. Angela personifies the phrase ‘joyful missionary disciple’. She has improved our school by her humble example, implementation of exemplary instruction, and collaborative spirit. We are blessed to have Mrs. Rochow at OLGC!
OLGC School Principal, Mrs. Melissa Hunt, has also been nominated by clergy, staff, and parents for the Amazing Catholic Educator (Principal) Award. Mrs. Hunt has exemplified all tenets of the Vision for Catholic Schools set forth in Archbishop Vigneron’s pastoral letter, Unleash the Gospel. From the moment she graced our school, she has worked tirelessly and has been fully committed to making OLGC a premier school in the AOD to not only grow academically but in faith as well. We believe Mrs. Hunt stands apart as an administrator. Her positive, bright and contagious energy is apparent each day – both outside of our building and within our hallways. Never before have we witnessed such a joy-filled missionary that has completely immersed themselves in the school community the way that she has. The most profound transformation that has been brought forth by Mrs. Hunt has been her role in keeping Christ at the center of our school and truly offering life changing encounters with Jesus.
On Wednesday, Angela and Melissa have been invited to a celebration in their honor. Let’s join as a school community to celebrate Angela and Melissa!

OLGC Parish School Lenten Challenge Continues
All families are invited to participate in a school-wide Lenten Challenge. Students will receive weekly recognition and incentives for their participation. There will also be grade level and school wide participation challenges! Students were asked to keep the "
" in their take-home folder/binder to make sure it is returned to school each week!
We celebrated Adam Martin today for his service to our parish and school on the Maintenance Team since October of 2019. We thank Mr. Martin for his dedication and hard work for our OLGC community. Mr. Martin has accepted a new position as a Facilities Manager. This promotional move comes as a blessing to his family as they welcome their sixth child soon. He will continue to support OLGC as a school parent and parishioner. Thank you for your prayers as Mr. Martin transitions to a new chapter in his life.
