Crusader Connection 2-5-21
February 5, 2021
Dear OLGC School Families,
It wouldn't be a Catholic Schools Week without a snow day! I pray everyone is enjoying their snow day and that lots of sledding and building snow forts occurred today! Please reassure your children that the "Green and Gold" theme day has been rescheduled to February 19th, and we are currently rescheduling our Praise and Adoration offering.
Open House was a huge success last week. More and more families are finding out about our incredible school. We are ONE FAMILY who welcomes new members with the love and joy of our Lord! God's work through our school family is transforming our community and bringing more and more people into a life-changing encounter with Jesus! As we continue to welcome new families for the 2021-2022 school year, please prayerfully consider being a "buddy family." As a buddy family, you have the opportunity to share God's welcoming Spirit and walk alongside a new family as they transition to our school. If you are interested, please contact Kaelah Lesnau at:
Thank you in advance for the time you are providing for our teachers and staff to engage in professional development on Monday. We will spend the morning participating in the Archbishop's Virtual Catechetical Day. The afternoon will be spent focusing on vertical alignment in our Math and English Language Arts Action Teams. During this unique year, we are maintaining our "academic excellence" as we align our curriculum, materials, and pacing from one grade level to the next. We are blessed to have the very best educators at OLGC who have adapted to new teaching and learning in phenomenal ways. They meet the individual academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of our Crusaders. Our staff deeply cares about your family and strives to share God's love with your children every day. Their dedication and passion for God, teaching, their students, and OLGC is commendable. Thank you for your continued prayers for our amazing staff.
In Christ's love,
Melisa Hunt, Principal

Renaissance Star Testing
The Archdiocese of Detroit has adopted Renaissance Star 360 screening assessments in Early Literacy, Reading, and Math. The use of Renaissance Star 360 assessments allows your child’s teacher to provide targeted instruction, intervention, or enrichment to your child based on his/her identified learning needs. Your child will complete the middle of the year appropriate assessment for his/her grade level during the following testing windows:
Math Assessment (All 1-8 students)
Reading (All 1-8 students) and Early Literacy (K-1 students)
*Your child's specific testing date will be communicated by your child's teacher. Thank you for making sure your child gets a good night rest and eats a good breakfast in order to do their best!

Attention Restaurant Owners
For the Lenten season, our parish is supporting local restaurants instead of hosting our own Fish Fry. If your family owns a local restaurant and would like for our school to share your restaurant's menu as an option, please contact Mrs. Hunt.
She's back! With Baby Stephen in tow! We are excited to have Mrs. Pollard assist OLGC Parish School with the Spring Musical. Although it will look differently this year to adhere to our Covid safety protocols, the musical will be an amazing opportunity for our students to SHINE and grow in confidence as the incredible children of God they were created!
Mass this week was offered for

We know OLGC is forming future Saints. During Catholic Schools Week, we were blessed to have Saints among us! Thank you for participating in all the fun dress up days as we celebrated our love for Catholic education! The "Green and Gold" theme day has been rescheduled for Friday, February 19th.
Covid Vaccine for Staff
All parish and school staff members were offered the Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday, February 3rd by the Wayne County Health Department. Thank you to our amazing staff and to our outstanding substitute, Mrs. Baker, who offered coverage for teachers to be able to receive the vaccine. This teamwork allowed OLGC to continue offering instruction on this day for students!
Please use the following
Screening Tool for Families
. Although it reflects a 10 day quarantine period, the AOD is still recommending a 14 day quarantine period. As always, please contact the school if you have any questions regarding our health and safety protocols.

Reminder: Rotating Shelter 2021
OLGC’s Annual Rotating Shelter looks a little different this year. We are unable to host our guests at OLGC, but we can still serve our brothers and sisters by delivering prepared meals and other goods to Cass Community Center Monday, March 1st- Friday, March 5th. Our students made placemats last week and will continue to make inspiring cards next week to accompany the meals.
