Crusader Connection 1-29-21
January 29, 2021
Dear OLGC School Families,
We are excited to celebrate
Catholic Schools Week
next week! Thank you for your commitment to partner with OLGC Parish School as we strive for all to come to know and act upon what God has done for the world in Jesus and to equip our students to lead the transformation of the culture. As Archbishop Vigneron says, “God calls our children to become joyful missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, and our schools to equip them for their sacred missions.” At OLGC Parish School, faith is at the core of everything we do. Thank you for your sacrifice to send your child(ren) to our Catholic school. There is no greater success and no greater gift than to give your child(ren) a relationship with Jesus and His Church!
In Christ's love,
Melisa Hunt, Principal

" where you can view classroom posters and videos of each classroom! Thank you for praying for this event as well as our prospective families as they discern Catholic education.
Rotating Shelter 2021
OLGC’s Annual Rotating Shelter looks a little different this year. We are unable to host our guests at OLGC, but we can still serve our brothers and sisters by delivering prepared meals and other goods to Cass Community Center Monday, March 1st- Friday, March 5th. Our students will be making inspiring cards and placemats to accompany the meals next week.
If you are in need of DOVE hours, this is a great way to acquire some. If you have any questions, please contact Katie Miller at
2021-2022 Drafted School Calendar
Thank you for your input on the parent school calendar survey. The School Improvement Team met this week to review survey data and AOD calendar guidelines. The drafted 2021-2022 school calendar may be found
. It is pending approval by the AOD.
This week the students voted on a charity they would like to support during Catholic School Week. This was led by our Jr. High Student Lighthouse Team.
was the winner! This ministry focuses on feeding and clothing the poor living in Detroit. (This is who we donate our Halloween candy to!) Students may bring in a donation next week to support PBJ Outreach. You may also consider volunteering as a family on Saturdays at our church to prepare food.
Winter Clothing Reminder
Please make sure all students are dressed appropriately for the cold temperatures. Students should have winter coats, hats, and gloves. Snow boots and snow pants are required to play in the snow.
Reminder on School Policy: Make Up Work Due to Illness
Homework will be sent home by the teachers if the child has been absent 3 or more days. Work that was assigned prior to the absence is due on the day the child returns to school. The student has as many days as s/he was absent to make up work. If a child is absent more than 5 consecutive days, s/he has as many days as s/he was absent plus 3 days to make up missed work.
Parents may make arrangements with another family/student to bring home assignments, gathered by the student, for their child while they are absent. This "Buddy System" works well in the middle and upper grades. Please do not call the School Office to make these arrangements for you on the day of an absence.
Reminder: Sharing on Social Media
Help spread the word about OLGC Parish School on Facebook.
Please share the Open House Promotional Video as well as the latest Pre-K Program video. Let's try to get over 200 shares!
The third graders at OLGC have been working hard on their WIGs! No, not their hair! WIGs are Wildly Important Goals that we set using our Leader in Me skills. Students set a goal to master their 6, 7, 8, and 9s multiplication facts, wrote out their lead measures, and now meet with an accountability partner each day to scoreboard their progress. We are on our way to meeting our goals!
Masses were offered this week for the
